RCS taps Damen Johnson as new Celtics girls basketball coach

Roanoke Catholic School is pleased to announce the hiring of Damen Johnson as new head coach of the Celtics girls basketball team.

A graduate of Ambassadors of Christ Academy in Fort Worth, Texas, Johnson was a Texas state All-Star in high school and continued his playing career at the collegiate level at Texas Christian University and Wiley College. Coach Johnson then played semi-professional basketball for the Texas RedHawks for three seasons. This past year, Johnson entered his 17th year of service in the United States Navy, serving as a Navy Hospital Corpsman First Class Petty Officer, which landed him in Roanoke. More recently, he is known in Southwest Virginia for his coaching success with the BRHHM Sports AAU girl’s basketball program.

“I know that the Roanoke Catholic girl’s basketball program has a strong tradition, and I look forward to continuing that tradition,” Johnson says. “I’m excited to get started.”

“We are very pleased to welcome Coach Johnson to the Roanoke Catholic family,” says Athletic Director Matt Peck. “His history of success both on and off the court is just what we seek to further enhance our basketball program.”
