Science Discovery (Grade PreK)
July 24-28 | 9 AM – Noon

This fun camp honors the curious nature of young minds. Children will discover the answers to commonly asked questions as they experiment, create, engage, discuss and share the joy of their own curiosity. Why is the sky blue? Where do rainbows come from? What causes hiccups? How do fireflies glow?

Bricks 4 Kidz STEM Camp (Grades K-6)

Using LEGO® bricks and S.T.E.M. principles, campers each week will build models from a different pop culture genre each day. For example, Mondays might be Minecraft, Star Wars on Tuesdays, Superheroes on Wednesday, Pokeman on Thursdays and Pirates on Fridays. Other themes include Angry Birds, Princesses, Dinosaurs, Lego City, Arcade Characters, Ninjago, Ninja Turtles and more! Themes change each week! Each camper will build a custom mini-figure to take home as well as Bricks4Kidz T-shirt.

Bricks 4 Kidz Robotics camp offers all the fun of building with LEGO® Bricks, plus the challenge of computer programming! How would you like to turn your next LEGO® creation into a robot, programmed to do exactly what you tell it to do? This fun, action-packed week combines real life skills with real kid fun, using the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Each camper will build a custom mini-figure to take home at the end of the week, as well as receive a Bricks 4 Kidz Camp T-shirt. Each week of Bricks 4 Kidz camp is a new experience featuring all new builds from prior weeks’ camps.

Science Museum of Western Virginia’s “Time Traveler” Camp (Grades K-5)

The Science Museum of Western Virginia brings this camp to Roanoke Catholic School! Travel back in time with us to explore significant events and historical figures of science’s past. Explore the history of science by recreating early experiments and investigating the ancestors of today’s technology.

Our friends at the Science Museum of Western Virginia bring this explosive, high-flying camp to Roanoke Catholic School! Join us for a week filled with engaging experiments about the sun, planets, and moons in our solar system. Explore what it takes to leave Earth by building and launching your own rocket. Travel with us to the very outer edges of known space to see what’s out there.


Body & Soul

Basic Cooking Camp (Grades 6-12)
June 19-23 | 9 AM – Noon

Led by Peter Radjou, RCS chef & owner of Taaza Restaurant, you’ll learn the fundamentals of culinary arts including knife skills, importance of food hygiene, basic cooking methods, making sauce and emulsions, and the essentials of food safety.

Advanced Cooking (Grades 6-12)
July 10-14 | 9 AM – Noon
$150 RCS rate | $165 general public
Led by Peter Radjou, RCS chef & owner of Taaza Restaurant, this camp is recommended for people who have already attended his 2016 cooking camp or Basic Cooking Camp. Participants will learn menu-planning, themed dishes and presentation skills.

Faith in Action Camp (Grades 6-12)
June 26-30 | 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
$225 RCS rate | $240 general public
RCS campus minister Beth Derringer leads this all-day camp on a variety of service projects in the community at service organizations such as Rescue Mission and Madonna House, giving campers the opportunity to grow closer to Christ and earn volunteer hours.

Butterfly Princess Camp (PreK)

Each princess will make her very own jewel butterfly tiara, wand, necklace, bracelet and purse. We’ll enjoy music from popular princess movies during sing-along time and learn a new dance each day. This royal camp has everything a princess could wish for!

This all-in-one camp combines everything young girls LOVE! Each day offers a new creative theme, optional dress up, arts and crafts projects, and music/dance routines. Monday: Mermaids & Butterflies. 5 Countries in 5 Days … Secret Agent Style! (Grades K-3)

Attention Secret Agents! Get your passports ready and bring your spirit of adventure for this very important mission. You’ll visit Australia, Japan, Mexico, Greece and Italy and learn to recognize famous landmarks in order to uncover important clues. And you’ll decode clues to solve the mystery of where important artifacts have been hidden.

Karate Camp (Grades K-5)
July 24-28 | 9 AM – Noon

Under the instruction of black belt and RCS parent Adam Algeier, campers will receive lessons on basic karate techniques focused on self defense, mild exercise, and discussions about nutrition and leadership.

Girls Soccer Camp (Grades K-2)
July 31 – August 4 | 9 AM – Noon

You’ll get a kick out of our soccer camp under RCS varsity coach Franny Apel, a former Idaho state player of the year and College of William and Mary star. Prior to Roanoke Catholic, Coach Apel was head coach 2011 to 2015 at R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston -Salem, N.C., coaching several players now playing at the collegiate level.

Run-A-Muck! (Grades 3-5)
July 31 – August 4 | 9 AM – Noon

Get moving and see how fast (and how far!) you can go! Campers will learn basic running warm-ups, form and stretching as we play running games and build up to a two-mile fun run (emphasis on fun!) at the end of the week. This will be a great way to learn more about cross-country or track-and-field, to build skills for other sports, or just to enjoy time outside with friends.

Virginia Outside Fishing (Grades 4-9)
July 31 – August 4 | 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Rate: $550
For over a decade, Virginia Outside has provided youth across the state with countless experiences on the water and stories to last a lifetime. Now Virginia Outside is coming to Roanoke Catholic for a week of freshwater fishing! We’ll spend plenty of time floating and wading area rivers including the Roanoke and James as well as target largemouth bass and other species in area ponds. We’ll introduce fishing basics to newcomers and help experienced anglers sharpen their skills. Virginia Outside provides all bait and tackle, rods and reels, and life jackets to be worn at all times (safety is our #1 priority). And we maintain a 1:4 counselor-to-camper ratio. Creative Writing (Grades 3-7)

Under the instruction of author and RCS reading specialist Dr. Cyndy Unwin, campers explore different ways to write creatively: journaling, poetry, story-writing, narrative non-fiction, song-writing. By week’s end, campers will have a finished piece and lots of ideas for further creative work.

Treasure Island (Grades K-3)
August 7-11 | 1-4 PM

Ahoy there! Welcome all pirates and mermaids on a 5-day adventure to create beach and ocean crafts and treasures each day. Campers will enjoy many surprises throughout the week. Games, music, prizes and, arrggh, a Swashbuckling Treasure Hunt.

Jungle Adventure (Grades K-3)
August 14-18 | 9 AM – Noon

Based on leader Carma Lee’s book, A Friend Indeed, this camp engages, educates and entertains. Grouped by age, campers learn or expand their current knowledge in basic Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science and Animal Fun Facts through activities from each of the characters in the book.


College Prep & Academic

SAT Boot Camp (Grades 9-12)
June 26-30 | 9 AM – 4 PM
$240 RCS rate | $255 general public
This full-day course is designed to help students prepare for the new SAT Test. It will include a review of math and English skills, test-taking strategies, and practice tests. Participants in our 2016 camp saw an average 80-point improvement on practice SATs from Day 1 to Day 5. Fee includes purchase of the Official SAT Study Guide (2017 Edition) by The College Board.

Writing Your Life for the College Personal Essay and Beyond (Grades 9-12)
July 10-14 | 1-4 PM
$130 RCS rate | $145 general public
Under the instruction of author and RCS reading specialist Dr. Cyndy Unwin, participants learn how to take meaningful life experiences and mold them into powerful writing. By the end of the week, campers’ polished, creative essays will be college-application ready.
