The Roanoke Catholic Advisory School Board (ASB) makes recommendations to the Principal/Head of School consistent with diocesan policy and in concert within these four areas: School Finance, Strategic Planning, Development/Marketing and Building and Grounds so that the largest possible number of students may be effectively educated in a Christian environment and where they are encouraged to make a deep personal commitment to Jesus Christ. The primary function of the ASB is to support the administration and staff of Roanoke Catholic School with sound advice and guidance.
Area Catholic parishes as well as other school-related organizations are represented on the Advisory School Board. The ASB meets in November, January, March, May and, when needed, in July, at 6:00 PM on the third Wednesday of the month. Currently, meetings are open to friends of RCS.
Roanoke Catholic School retains the right to amend the School Board Handbook and By-Laws at its sole discretion and in concert with diocesan policy and approval. Parents and students will be notified if changes are made.
From the School Board Handbook for Catholic Schools
“According to Canon Law, the Bishop, as the chief catechist of the diocese, has the final authority over all schools …. In the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, each Regional/Parish school must have a Board of Directors or Executive Committee.”
Policy-making for a school is the responsibility of the Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
