The Resource Program at RCS
The goal of the Resource program at RCS is to provide multiple opportunities for all students to seek assistance that allows them to reach their academic potential. This can be achieved by entering a formal process of evaluation or an informal process that provides assistance as needed.
Highlights of the program:
- Screening of students for learning issues based on teacher and/or parent referrals
- Initial assessment and/evaluation of students’ skills in an effort to identify strengths and weaknesses
- Referral to Roanoke City Schools for evaluation and development of an individualized educational plan or 504 /classroom accommodation plan
- Referral, coordination and monitoring of Speech therapy for eligible Roanoke Catholic students
- Instructor of Study Skills Class for eighth grade students
- Instructor for resource classes in Reading, Language Arts and Math (LS and US as needed)
- Morning study hall (7:15-7:55) daily that provides time for students to get assistance with HW, Test preparation, etc.)
- Coordination of the PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening for PK and Kindergarten
- Assistance to students and parents in developing learning strategies, behavioral plans and structured accountability
- Transitional planning for High School students
- After school tutoring
- Seeks Accommodations and administers SAT and ACT for US students when eligible
- Creates and maintains classroom accommodation plans for students in consultation with parents, students and faculty
