GENERAL INFORMATION

Roanoke Catholic School, established in 1889, is accredited by the Virginia Catholic Educational Association (VCES) and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).  On September 26, 2006, the Catholic High School Honor Roll acknowledged Roanoke Catholic School as one of the nation’s best 50 Catholic secondary schools in America for the third consecutive year.  In addition, Roanoke Catholic School placed among the top 20 schools in the category of Academics in 2006 and Civic Education in 2004 and 2005.  Our school is a college preparatory school.  100% of seniors are accepted to colleges and universities.

Roanoke Catholic School, like other small, rigorous college preparatory schools, does not rank students for the purpose of college admission.  Our school requires school uniforms for all students in PreKindergarten to 12th grade.  Also, the Upper School student must complete a minimum 40 hours of individual service each school year.

The average of SAT scores for the student at Roanoke Catholic School is 1714 in 2008 for combination of Math, Critical Reading, and Writing.

At our school, we do not require any TOEFL or SLEP test score to apply for admission.  While we do not have a formal English Language Learner (ELL) program, we do assist students with English needs on an individual basis.

We require testing and interviews for all students as part of the admission process.  Under the circumstances, we do waive an interview for international students.

At Roanoke Catholic School, we offer Honor, Advanced Placement, and Dual-Enrollment courses.

STUDENT SUPPORT

Many private schools have one thing in common; they have small class sizes to form close relationships between students and teachers.  In addition, our school strongly suggests that all international students meet with their academic advisor on a weekly basis.  We take a personal interest in the well being of international students.  It is very important to make international students feel welcome and at home during their stay with us.

Roanoke Catholic School is a day school.  Many individuals, families, and community people believe that our school is one of the best private schools in offering high quality academic programs to international students as well as American students.

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES

We understand that international students are very anxious about living in America, adjusting to a new school, and making new friends as well as the excitement of seeking their visions and hopes in education.  Education is not only about attending good colleges, but it is also about learning from daily experiences.  However, our program is dedicated to ensuring that our students have many opportunities to learn and have fun.  We are not only teaching them to do well for subjects and homework, but also teaching them the value of discipline and the use of time management to do well in college in the future.

International students, enrolled at Roanooke Catholic School, must be covered by a personal primary health insurance policy.  During their stay in the U.S. these foreign national students must acquire health insurance from a U.S. firm to serve as their primary source of insurance for medical coverage.  The school's policy is a secondary policy, designed to cover claims of incidents, which might occur during school related events and might not be covered by their primary insurance carrier.
