A Letter From The Booster Club

Hello Roanoke Catholic Celtics!

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year at Roanoke Catholic School!  As this new year begins, we anticipate great things from our student athletes - however, they will need your help more than ever.

Last year saw the beginning of a new Booster Club and as we start this academic year we have restructured the Booster Club and redefined its role in supporting athletics at RCS.  Starting this school year, the Booster Club is responsible for 100% of the operating costs of our teams.  This covers everything from equipment and uniforms to officials and transportation fees.  We are now the funding arm for Athletics at Roanoke Catholic School.

To support this new responsibility the Booster Club has become an independent organization.  We are no longer working under the auspices of the school, but instead working alongside the school to meet common goals.  This new organization, Celtic Athletic Booster Club, is a Non-Profit Non-Stock Corporation.  Our tax-exempt status means all donations to our organization are tax-deductible.  The Booster Club will continue to support activities such as the Homecoming Bonfire and Sports Programs, but we now also have a $100k operating budget to meet.

In order to meet this budget, we need you – the Parents of Roanoke Catholic students.

First, we need you to sign up as active members of the Booster Club.  Membership is only $25 annually and covers your entire family.  Your paid membership is your voice at Booster Club meetings.  If you’ve ever wanted to be part of a solution – this is the time to join the Booster Club.

Second, volunteer for Booster Activities.  We can meet the needs of our Athletes only by volunteering for Booster events.  Last year we had about 70 families registered as Booster Members.  Of these 140 parents, there was a core group of about two dozen that coordinated and managed our events.  We simply cannot rely on these same two dozen parents this year – we need everyone’s help.

If your son or daughter participates (or plans to participate) on one of our many athletic teams then you have an obligation to join and participate in the Booster Club today.  This is your opportunity to have a direct impact on the Athletic life of your child.  Our goal is to have 100% of our athletes’ parents participate in the Booster Club.

Athletics is a core component of all our students’ life at Roanoke Catholic.  This is true not only for our athletes but for all students.  School spirit is centered on athletics.  Have you ever been to a Homecoming Bonfire or a Powder-Puff game?  Ever attend a Basketball game?  It’s not just athletes and their parents that attend these events – it’s everyone.

Roanoke Catholic’s mission statement states “Our fundamental task is the education of the whole person, blending learning with faith and faith with daily life…”  So much is taught to our students through athletics – discipline, faith, teamwork, sportsmanship, and many more life lessons.

If you have questions about the Celtic Athletic Booster Club; how to get involved; or volunteer opportunities, feel free to reach out to any of our Executive Committee members or join us at our next Booster Club meeting.  The Booster Club meets on the first Tuesday of every month in the school cafeteria at 7:00pm.
